Description
Acrylic Surface Primer for Miniatures and Models
POP ART Acrylic Surface Primer is a water-based base coat designed to prepare compatible hobby surfaces before acrylic painting. It creates a more consistent painting surface and helps later color layers apply evenly without relying on a heavy coat that can hide fine detail.
Use it for miniatures, scale models, statues, terrain, props and properly prepared 3D prints. The primer is available in Black, Grey and White, with 30ml, 125ml and 250ml size options.
Choose the Right Primer Color
- Black: useful for dark color schemes, shadows, metallics and terrain.
- Grey: a balanced base for a wide range of light and dark colors.
- White: recommended beneath bright colors, pale schemes, neons and transparent shading colors.
Brush Application
- Clean the surface and remove dust, grease and loose material.
- Shake or stir the primer thoroughly before use.
- Apply a thin, controlled coat with a soft brush.
- Allow the layer to dry before adding another coat where needed.
- Let the primer dry adequately before applying paint.
Several light coats are preferable to one heavy coat, especially on fine miniature details and textured 3D prints.
Airbrush Application
The primer can be applied through a compatible airbrush setup after adjusting it to suit the nozzle and equipment. If extra reduction is required, add POP ART Acrylic Airbrush Thinner gradually and test the spray pattern on spare material. Avoid excessive thinning, which can reduce coverage and film strength.
Suitable Surfaces
Use on properly prepared resin, plastic, metal, wood, plaster and other compatible craft surfaces. Surface materials and previous coatings vary, so test adhesion on a small hidden area before starting an important project.
Continue the Painting Process
After priming, use POP ART Model Paint for brush-focused detail work or POP ART Airbrush Paint for sprayed base coats and gradients. Protect the completed project with a compatible varnish when additional protection or a specific sheen is required.
Drying time and final appearance depend on coat thickness, surface type, temperature and humidity. Keep the container closed when not in use and clean tools promptly after application.

Tested their grey on a Games Workshop miniature and it thinned beautifully with a little water and then dried to a very nice flat to satin finish. No flaking or any rubbing off after drying. Excellent brush on primer.
